Facebook has taken social networking to a new level and one group has tapped into the buzz hoping to cash out.
"People are being entrapped thinking that well since it's on Facebook or Myspace the credibility of that website means I'm safe and that is not necessarily the case," says Michael Galvin of The Better Business Bureau.
The BBB has issued a stern warning to all Facebook and Myspace users. Buyer beware when clicking on their ads, most are credible but some are down right corrupt.
"Sideberry...Sideberry is testimony of weight loss, they even have gone as far as to say they cure cancer.
"Weight loss programs, work at home programs, reward programs, free trials of Mac computers and travel clubs are just a few which have scammed hundreds everyday.
Those complaints are outlined on the BBB's website. This problem starts with the simple click of a mouse, once you're inside a corrupt advertisers site you're baited. Some may offer a free product and all you have to do is pay for shipping. Shipping that may only cost $4 however the minute you enter your credit card information you are done. You'll never see that free product, instead you'll see additional monthly charges right here on that credit card."
Trying to cancel those credit card charges is virtually impossible because the phones aren't answered and emails are not responded to," says Galvin.
You end up canceling your credit card. So how do you know which advertisers are legitimate and which ones are not?
"The key thing is to be aware of what they're reading and read the fine print.
"Often times those terms and conditions at the bottom of the ad spell out everything. The best consumer is the informed consumer. Read carefully everything before you enter personal information and check in with the Better Business Bureau to make sure the ad is legitimate. A little diligence may save you time and money instead of becoming a quick victim to empty promises.
I don't want to join anything else. You are right though. There are lots of scammers out there. It's a shame too.

Very good warning Colleen! There are so many scammers out there. It's sad at how many fall prey to them. I'm not a very trusting person anymore when it comes to offers. If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably isn't. I've learnt to watch the addresses, urls, print, etc. If there is sympbols in there that shouldn't be, then I won't even touch it.
