To take part in Sunday Praise and Worship
Prayer
1 John 5:14-15
14This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 15And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.
Sometimes Christians treat prayer as if it were a magic Formula-whatever you want, from a new car to a good looking-physique, can be yours if you just utter the magic words, "in Jesus name."
This passage teaches that prayer is not magic, nor is it primarily a vehicle for getting what we want. An important part of prayer is discerning God's will and aligning ourselves with it.
When we pray for that which we knows pleases God, we can pray with confidence.

ReplyDeleteOh Amen! I'm so glad you said this. So many out there today are following 'the name it claim it' approach to prayer and life - like whatever they want is a magic genie rub away. It saddens me deeply. God desires a relationship with us. And when are will becomes aligned to His will, we know what to ask for.
